The Region's Economy Wins One
This story is developing this morning, but the region's efforts to get its act together economically has landed a big, big win. Barilla America Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of the Italian pasta giant -- yes, that Barilla -- will build and operate a manufacturing factory in Avon. At the same time, a partner will develop a related warehouse and distribution center for Barilla products.
The 300,000 square-foot-facility will be located on a 49-acre site north of Route 5 & 20 in the village of Avon. Barilla is a 129-year-old company based in Parma, Italy. Its products are widely distributed in area grocery stores. "We sought a location that felt like a home away from home," said Barilla America President Kirk Trofholz. In this morning's news release, officials say Barilla is joining a "food corridor" that includes companies such as Kraft, ADM, Sweeteners Plus and Frank Perdue. It's also part of the region's growing focus on the food and beverage industry for potential growth. Here's a link to the announcement.
